EDGE Standards Review on AI, Digital Equality, and Workplace Fairness

At EDGE Certified Foundation, our global standards provide organizations with a rigorous framework to measure, improve, and certify workplace gender and intersectional equity, creating lasting impact both within and beyond the workplace.

Our approach to standards development and revision is guided by three core principles:

  • The EDGE Standards must have real-world impact.
  • The EDGE Standards must be credible.
  • The EDGE Standards and Certification System must be rigorous.

The EDGE Certified Foundation Board oversees the development and revision of the EDGE Standards and Certification Requirements, making final decisions on the adoption of new or revised requirements.

In 2026, we have embarked on a thematic review of the EDGE Standards and Certification Requirements focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and automated decision-making systems in employment practices and talent management.

Organizations are increasingly using AI-enabled tools across the employment lifecycle, including recruitment, professional development and training, performance management, and promotion. While these technologies offer opportunities to support consistency, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making, they also raise important questions about fairness, transparency, accountability, human oversight, and the potential for bias. At the same time, emerging regulatory frameworks, including the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act), are placing greater emphasis on the governance, oversight, and responsible use of AI systems that may affect individuals in employment contexts.

As part of this review, the EDGE Certified Foundation will consider whether and how the EDGE Standards should evolve to address the growing use of AI and automated decision-making systems in the workplace. This includes reviewing potential requirements relating to organizational statistics, policies and practices, and the monitoring of AI-enabled employment decisions to help promote fair and equitable outcomes.

Our standards development process is supported by a dedicated Technical Committee, which plays an important role in reviewing proposals developed by the EDGE Certified Foundation Executive and providing expert feedback and recommendations. We are deeply grateful to the members of the Technical Committee for their time, expertise, and commitment to ensuring that the EDGE Standards remain relevant, credible, rigorous, and impactful.

The Technical Committee meetings for the AI and Digital Equality Review will take place on 24 June and 1 July 2026.
