Catalent USA gets re-certified at EDGE Assess level.

Catalent USA, the global leader in enabling pharma, biotech, and consumer health partners to optimize product development, launch, and supply better patient treatments, has successfully re-certified at EDGE Assess level for its continuous commitment to workplace gender equity. Catalent USA has earned EDGE Assess certification – a certification which originally obtained in 2020 – and it remains the only organization in the health care sector and pharmaceuticals industry to be EDGE Assess certified in the USA.

EDGE is the leading global assessment methodology and business certification standard for gender and intersectional equity. Catalent USA has renewed its certification at the first level, EDGE Assess, where the organization commits to continue implementing an impactful action plan that will support the organization to accelerate its progress in terms of gender balance across the talent pipeline, gender pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices to ensure equitable career flows and fostering an inclusive workplace.

The certification process involves a rigorous third-party review of an organization’s current status. As an integral part of the assessment, employees receive a comprehensive survey to assess perceptions of career development opportunities in the workplace.

Since its initial certification two years ago, Catalent USA has improved women’s representation in the junior, middle and top management levels, including in core functions, profit and loss (P&L) responsibility roles and in people managers functions. The organization has shown improvements and reinforcement of policies and practices to ensure equitable career flows in equal pay for equivalent work, leadership development training and mentoring, and flexible working. This has led to improvements in employees’ perceptions on fairness of promotion and access to training opportunities showing that employees are reacting positively to the organization’s efforts to improve in these areas.

Aniela Unguresan, Founder of EDGE Certified Foundation, says it is encouraging to see such a large and influential employer within the pharmaceuticals industry making more progress in gender representation: “Catalent USA’s efforts to retain women across the pipeline led to important improvements in the gender representation in only two years. This is a remarkable undertaking especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and its particular challenges in terms of effective talent management practices.

EDGE Certification involves a rigorous third-party review of representation across the pipeline, pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices, and inclusiveness of an organization’s culture. As an integral part of the assessment, statistical data is analysed, policies and practices are reviewed and employees’ experiences of career development opportunities in the current workplace are accounted for. EDGE Certification meets organizations where they are in their gender balance journey (EDGE) and in their intersectional equity journey (EDGEplus) through its three levels of certification: Assess, Move and Lead. A certification at the EDGE Assess level recognizes commitment, one at the EDGE Move level showcases progress and a certification at the EDGE Lead level celebrates success in fostering gender equitable workplaces. An EDGEplus certification further recognizing its commitment to analyzing intersectional issues between gender and one or several of the following additional dimensions: gender identity, race/ethnicity, LGBTQI+, working with a disability, nationality and age.
